Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 7th, 2023. In today’s article, we’ve got a bit of a quiet one on our hands. There are some new releases to look at, and that’s what we’ll do. After that, it’s just the usual lists of new and expiring sales. Well, I suppose that isn’t that bad for a Wednesday. Let’s get to it, shall we?

New Releases

SENSEs: Midnight ($14.99)

This is a follow-up to Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story, and it takes the game from a 2D survival horror experience to a 3D one. And like that game, it’s… okay. Not great. Not horrible. It’s shorter than the original game and as such doesn’t have as many pacing issues, but you do have to deal with the things that come with an homage to the 3D era of this genre such as tank controls and some really weird puzzles. It’s not something I would vigorously recommend at its current price, but if you’re more into the aesthetic than I am you might enjoy it more.

Nocturnal ($19.99)

I think this might be a Metroidvania-style game, but it’s too dark for me to tell. Don’t get mad at me if it’s stage-based. You’re exploring an island that has been covered by a sinister dark mist that seems to have a mind of its own. The only way to pass through the mist without harm is by harnessing the power of fire. It certainly looks beautiful. I like the animation of the main character in particular. But looks are all I can comment on for now, as I haven’t been able to play it.

Brain Show ($14.99)

A fairly straightforward quiz show for up to eight players via local multiplayer. Answer questions drawn from a pool of five thousand spread across forty-one categories. There are a few different rule variations to keep things spicy, plus the seemingly obligatory annoying host commenting on everything. There are people who only pull out their game console to play games with friends or family, and they are probably the ones who would be most likely to enjoy this.

Reasoning of Courage Nori 3 Balanced Diet ($1.50)

This developer keeps on releasing these odd, low-cost visual novel-type games that only have Japanese language support, and I for one appreciate their determination.

Let’s have a look at what’s in the old inbox today. An assortment of indies, and that’s always nice. Oh, a big sale from Bethesda! Those are all pretty good, because you absolutely cannot go wrong with DOOM in general. And then there are a bunch of visual novels from Gamuzumi, which I will leave to you to do with what you will. In the outbox, the big Hamster Arcade Archives sale is wrapping up. That publisher rarely does any sales at all, and you won’t see the same games go on sale again for a long time if ever again. Some good indies in there as well, so check both lists carefully.
