Midjourney Alpha has initiated testing of its website, marking a new phase for one of the world’s most utilized image-generating AI services. Midjourney, renowned for its expansive user base of over 17.5 million on the Discord messaging app, is transitioning to a platform that allows direct image generation on its site, a departure from its exclusive Discord usage.

What is Midjourney Alpha?

Midjourney Alpha is the web-based iteration of the renowned image generator, Midjourney. This version represents a significant evolution from its original format, which was primarily accessible via the Discord messaging platform. By transitioning to a web interface, Midjourney Alpha offers users a more direct and possibly more intuitive way to generate images, expanding its accessibility and ease of use.

The emergence of the Midjourney Alpha websitesite, equipped with an AI image generation feature, was initially detected by observant users like Nick St. Pierre (@NickFloats), who circulated screenshots and videos on X.

Midjourney recently verified through its Discord announcements channel that it is trialing an alpha version of its website that includes image creation capabilities. However, the company emphasized that this initial release is restricted to users who have generated over 10,000 images in Midjourney.

In a reassuring note, Midjourney announced plans to extend access to a broader audience in the upcoming month. To verify if they meet the 10,000 image criterion, users can log into Midjourney on Discord, execute the /info slash command in any channel or directly to the Midjourney Discord bot, and obtain an updated count of their image generations.

How does Midjourney Alpha work?

According to the sources, the website boasts a sleek and uncluttered design, featuring ample white space and debuts with a tab titled Explore that displays public creations from various users. At the top, there’s a streamlined rectangular Imagine text box adorned with a plus sign, where qualified users can input their prompts.

To the right end of this box, an icon depicting horizontal lines and circles, akin to dials, is present. Clicking on this icon unveils a graphical interface for fine-tuning prompt settings.

This approach marks a significant shift from the existing Discord-based Midjourney, which relied on users incorporating complex text commands into their prompts. In the new web interface, for instance, selecting a landscape format no longer requires typing –ar 4:3. Users can instead select the Landscape option from the prompt settings menu, which automatically adjusts the setting without modifying the visible prompt text.

Additionally, on the left sidebar, users can click on the Photo icon to access a reverse-chronological display of all their creations on the service, organized in a grid and sorted by date. This section also provides updates on ongoing image generation tasks.

How to try Midjourney Alpha?

Start by verifying whether you’ve created over 10,000 images. You can quickly confirm this by asking Midjourney Bot on Discord. Type /info and hit Enter.

If you have indeed created more than 10,000 images, you’re eligible for access to the new Midjourney Alpha.

Upon confirming your image count, you can go to Midjourney Alpha’s website. Here, you can easily sign in to start exploring the features of the tool.
