Solana Labs is set to launch its cryptocurrency-centric smartphone, the Saga, on May 8. Pre-ordered devices have already started shipping, about 10 months after Soalan first hinted at the groundbreaking potential of a cell phone that could also function as a dedicated cryptocurrency hardware wallet.

Priced at $1,000, the Saga is manufactured in partnership with the Bay Area-based smartphone company OSOM. The device boasts 512 GB of storage, dual versatile rear camera lenses, a 6.67-inch OLED display, and a fingerprint scanner, all powered by the latest Android operating system.

What sets the Saga apart, according to Solana, is the "Solana Mobile Stack" (SMS) – a collection of bespoke add-ons designed to seamlessly integrate cryptocurrency functionality into both the hardware and software of the phone.

SMS includes embedded security features that enable users to send, receive, trade, and store cryptocurrency on the device.

The Saga also features a tailored "dapp" store that exclusively lists cryptocurrency applications. At launch, over a dozen apps are available, spanning cryptocurrency trading, inter-wallet communications, music, and digital collectibles, with more anticipated to be added over time.
