A marathon auction in an inner-city Brisbane suburb has sold for $5.85m under the hammer.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom home at 42 Stewart Street, Hawthorne, sold under the hammer in an auction lasting for 70 minutes.

The auction had six bidders registered, with three active throughout the auction.

Auctioneer Haesley Cush from Ray White said the sale today at 42 Stewart Street, Hawthorne demonstrated that the confidence in Brisbane’s property market was ‘very much there’.

The sellers, Tim and Tegun Geary, had designed and built the home and said they were over the moon with the result.

Property agent Brandon Wortley from Ray White The Collective said the entire street was packed during the auction.

“There were about 300 people in the crowd,” Mr Wortley said.

“We had 200 inspections in three weeks; the market came to play today.

“The street is a real unicorn street for Hawthorne, and the sellers always wanted to do a project on this street.

“It’s quite a large home and was built by a highly regarded architect and builder.

“Tegun and Tim designed everything themselves in consultation with their builder and architect.”

Auctioneer Haesley Cush said the prestige market was still really strong.

“It was a huge turnout today, 300 people,” Mr Cush said.

“We had locals here today, interstate buyers too.

“We had people here that are building locally, wanting to see the confidence in the market if they do the build. That confidence is still very much there.

“The owners took great comfort in selling today because they had an enormous crowd; they had six registered bidders, and those bidders participated.

Mr Cush said although the auction went well, it did need to hit pause to negotiate.

“We did need to push pause; that pause got us another $200,000,” he said.

The winning bid went to a family from North Queensland that was bidding over the phone.
