The story

AerinX has signed up another customer for its augmented reality (AR) aircraft maintenance solution.

Magnetic MRO, the global aircraft maintenance and asset management provider headquartered in Estonia, signed an agreement with AerinX to begin using its aircraft skin inspection software last week in Amsterdam at the MRO Europe conference and exhibition.

AerinX’s AR solution enables engineers conducting maintenance to determine the size and exact location of damage on an aircraft.

It projects all relevant technical information about a given aircraft type in 3D on the surface of the plane, including plate thickness at the given point and damage history. It also works in tandem with supplier databases.

AerinX says airlines and MRO companies such as Magnetic can enhance maintenance efficiency and productivity with digital solutions such as its own, giving them an important competitive advantage.

Sergei Shkolnik, base maintenance director at Magnetic MRO, agrees with this point: “We are excited about our partnership with AerinX as their MR [mixed reality, a form of AR]-based inspection solution challenges the conventional ways of aircraft inspections. It makes the whole process faster for our technicians [and] has the potential to digitalise the entire process for improved efficiency.”

Budapest, Hungary-based AerinX launched its solution this year and has already signed up customers within the EU and the Gulf region, including VD Gulf at the base maintenance facility at Sharjah International Airport.

The company is preparing to launch a funding round “within the coming months”, which will involve “an international strategic investor”, to accelerate its global market penetration.

Bence Kiss, co-founder and chief executive officer of AerinX, comments: “AerinX is a unique and highly innovative supporting tool and system for aerospace engineers using 3D models and mixed reality technology. With our support technicians can focus on the high value-added tasks where their experience is required the most. Based on our end-to-end approach, we cover the time-consuming tasks which an aircraft technician encounters during an outer surface inspection process.”

He adds: “We are very excited about our fresh partnership with Magnetic MRO, as they are a significant global player keen to use the latest technology.”
