In late June 2024, the IQT Nordics conference is set to feature Jussi-Pekka Penttinen, the Co-Founder, CEO, and CTO of Vexlum Oy, a deep-tech laser company based in Tampere, Finland. Penttinen’s extensive background in photonics and semiconductor lasers, coupled with his entrepreneurial achievements, makes him a valuable addition to the conference, providing insights into the intersection of quantum technology and advanced laser systems.

Vexlum Oy, founded in 2017, is at the forefront of developing VECSEL (Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) technology, a core area of research that Penttinen was deeply involved in at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at Tampere University. This technology is crucial for various applications, including quantum technology, where precise and high-quality laser systems play a vital role.

Penttinen’s academic background includes a Master of Science (Technology) degree in photonics, electronics, and industrial management. His 14 years of experience with semiconductor lasers and 12 years of engagement with customers and collaborators in the Quantum Technology segment make him well-versed in photonics’ technical and commercial aspects in quantum applications.

In 2023, Penttinen’s contributions to the field were recognized when he was selected for The Photonics 100 list, highlighting the most innovative people in the photonics industry. His recognition as the 2023 Entrepreneur of the Year in Tampere also underscores his success in combining scientific innovation with entrepreneurial acumen.

At the IQT Nordics conference, Penttinen is expected to discuss the role of advanced laser technology in quantum computing and other quantum technologies using Vexlum Oy as a case study. He will likely share insights into the development of VECSEL technology and its applications, as well as the challenges and opportunities in commercializing high-tech photonics solutions in the quantum technology space.

IQT Nordics/Helsinki, June 24-26, Aalto University, Dipoli Building, Helsinki
The second annual Nordics conference partners with Bluefors, Business Finland, The Finnish Quantum Institute, and VTT and will focus on real-world quantum technology applications.
