Slay the Princess has to be one of the most morally ambiguous games released so far this year, and its release has thrown fans of narrative story games into a frenzy. With many different endings and the ability to completely change the story with a single choice, anything goes in this dark fantasy game.

The game starts with your character being instructed to enter a desolate cabin, grab a knife, and head down to the basement, where you’ll meet a princess, known only as the Princess in the game — even she can’t remember her own name. The Narrator, your guide on this mysterious journey, will instruct you to slay the Princess, just like the game’s title suggests. What happens from there onwards is all up to you, and how your story unfolds will depend upon the choices you choose to make, and those you don’t.

In order to get the I Tried So Hard And Got So Far achievement in Slay the Princess, you will first need to make sure you set up the story correctly. Your first step is to attempt to rescue the Princess, instead of trying to slay her right off the bat. You will need to ignore what the Narrator says at first to do this though, or at least try to put it out of your mind for the time being. As soon as you make a move to try and rescue the Princess, then confirm it, the Narrator will attempt to take over and force you to eliminate her.

The next part of the process is to stay silent, and not warn the Princess nor resist the Narrator as he takes over your body, forcing you to kill the Princess. You then need to commit to attacking her, submitting to the Narrator’s will, and changing your mind from the initial rescue attempt. Although this may seem like a difficult decision at first, slaying the Princess is what the Narrator wants in the end, and he purports that she is a monster who will destroy the world. So, all in all, doesn’t the fate of the entire world matter more than one royal highness?

Which ending of Slay the Princess is the best?

There are a number of different endings within the game, all of which result in unique and varying levels of success for your character, and the Princess if you sided with her against the Narrator’s wishes. In my opinion, however, the absolute best ending of Slay the Princess is quite fittingly called ‘The Good Ending’, where you enter the cabin, take the knife and then slay the Princess immediately upon encountering her. You then need to ignore the Voice of the Hero, which will attempt to convince your character to use the knife on yourself. You must also refrain from checking on the Princess to see if she is dead, and avoid going to retrieve your knife from her body. Good luck out there, and remember, SLAY. THE. PRINCESS!
