Arguably the most exciting new addition to Apex Legends in Season 17 is Weapon Mastery, but how are you supposed to earn Weapon Mastery XP quickly?

Weapon Mastery is a system that allows you to earn unique rewards for each individual weapon in the game after earning Weapon Mastery XP and completing the Trials available at every 20 levels. Let’s dive into the best ways to earn this XP.

Note: If you want to know every Weapon Mastery Trial and how to complete them, check out the guide I wrote on Attack of the Fanboy.

Apex Legends: How to get Weapon Mastery XP fast

To reach full mastery on one weapon in Apex Legends you need to earn 1,000,000 XP. Since Apex Legends currently has 29 weapons, you need to earn a total of 29,000,000 Weapon Mastery XP if you want to fully master every weapon.

While it will take time, there are four easy ways to earn Weapon Mastery XP fast in Apex Legends. Grab your favorite legend and start chipping away at fully mastering your favorite guns by using these methods.

Dealing damage — especially when sliding, jumping, and zipping

The easiest and most obvious way to earn Weapon Mastery XP is to deal damage. Respawn Entertainment hasn’t specified how much XP you get for dealing damage, or from any other method, but you can take comfort in knowing that you’ll earn a lot of XP by dealing damage to enemies. If you hurt enemies while sliding, jumping, and using a zipline, you’ll earn even more XP.

Getting headshots

Getting headshots with your weapon will earn you the maximum bonus amount of Weapon Mastery XP for that weapon. Headshots are hard to pull off, but this is good news for working through any sniper Weapon Mastery. If you aren’t very good at getting headshots, try practicing in the Firing Range.

Getting kills

Being the one to pull the trigger and get the kill will net you more Weapon Mastery XP. Again, we aren’t aware of how much more, but it is more, so go for those kills. Even try playing Legends with abilities that make it easier for you to rack up kills.

Holding your weapon

Lastly, the easiest way to earn Weapon Mastery XP is to simply have your weapon out during a game. This is the slowest way to get Weapon Mastery XP, but also the most surefire way. You won’t earn XP if the weapon is stowed and you’ll lose the speed boost you get for putting your weapon away, but if you want to earn Weapon Mastery XP fast, keep your gun out.
