Hot NFTs: Google searches for NFTs skyrocket to all-time peaks

According to Google’s keyword search statistics, interest in nonfungible tokens (NFTs) has reached new highs, with traffic outnumbering search words related to many of the top 10 crypto assets.

Google Trends data show interest in NFTs skyrocketed at the start of the year, fueled by Dapper Labs’ NBA Top Shot and vintage Ethereum-based NFTs.

As of the end of June, search volume had dropped by 75%, but interest began to rise again in July, and by the end of October, the bubble had burst into new highs.

NFT keyword search continues ascent

Google search traffic for NFT-related keywords has continued to rise since then, more than doubling in the last three months.

“NFT” has surpassed numerous phrases that have long dominated crypto-related search traffic, including “DeFi,” “blockchain,” and “Ethereum,” as a result of the surge in interest.

Despite Dogecoin capturing the public’s attention during the second quarter, when searches for “Dogecoin” exceeded those for “Bitcoin” in early May, the meme token mania faded quickly during the third quarter.

As a result, the Google Trends data implies that the dog-coin rally’s impetus was quickly channeled into NFT enthusiasm.

NFT search hot in Asia

Asian countries are now dominating NFT search traffic, with China, Uganda, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines at the top of the rankings, Google Trends data show.

The search traffic for “NFT” in China peaked between September 5 and 11 this year.

Tencent introduced its NFT trading portal Huanhe a month before the rise, while Alibaba launched a marketplace where users can sell licenses to develop NFTs from copyrighted content.

Chinese Communist Party statements criticizing NFTs were published in the official state media magazine The People’s Daily on September 10, possibly causing a drop in search volume since then.
