The next installment in the Halo franchise, Halo: Infinite, is just a few months away. While the game was initially set to release last year as an Xbox Series S|X launch title, it was delayed due to issues related to development but we finally have a release date.
During Gamescom 2021’s opening night, Microsoft officially announced that Halo: Infinite’s campaign and the free-to-play multiplayer will launch on December 8, 2021.
However, the game’s campaign co-op and Forge won’t be present at the launch and will release sometime after Seasons 2 and 3. In August’s development update, Joseph Staten, Halo: Infinite’s Senior Creative Director, said that the team made a “really tough decision to delay shipping campaign co-op for launch” in an effort to deliver the best possible experience for players on launch. This might sound disheartening as Infinite’s campaign will be somewhat non-linear, and players could finish main objectives at their own leisure by exploring the world and completing side activities and the inclusion of co-op could simply elevate the whole experience as you mess around with your friends.
To celebrate Halo’s 20th anniversary, Microsoft has announced a Halo: Infinite Limited Edition Xbox Series X along with the Halo Infinite Limited Edition Elite Series 2 controller. The Series X sports a black and grey color scheme and gold accents with a blue vent design, clearly inspired by Cortana, and the bundled controller follows a similar design while the Elite Series 2 controller has black grips, ABXY buttons, and triggers with a golden d-pad and green joysticks and faceplate.
