GREENVILLE — With each passing Greenville Planning Commission meeting, the reality of medical marijuana provisioning centers opening within the city is inching closer.
On June 24, the Greenville Planning Commission held discussions during a workshop session on medical and recreational marijuana ordinances for the second time, having previously discussed the topic June 10, and moving forward, a few more meetings will likely be required.
The Planning Commission has been tasked by the Greenville City Council, following a vote of the Council on April 6, with finalizing marijuana ordinances that will in large part open the door for medical marijuana provisioning centers.
Those ordinances will subsequently be recommended for approval back to the City Council, which if approved, would result in provisioning centers — for medical marijuana only — being able to operate in specific commercial areas of the city.
Additionally, the ordinances would permit the growth and processing of both medical and recreational (adult use) marijuana in the city’s industrial zones, but would not allow the commercial sale of adult use…
