Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are back to save possessed kids and battle deadly demons. The first trailer for The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It, released on Thursday, teases the setup and a few of the scares from the Warner Bros. movie, which hits theaters and HBO Max this summer.

As the title suggests, the movie is based on the famous “The devil made me do it” case, which the Warrens were really involved in. Without spoiling many of the details, the trailer introduces us to a few of the key players, including David Glatzel, who apparently was possessed by a demonic spirit. The trailer throws plenty of quick scares and tense moments at us, but the most the creepiest is a glimpse of an exorcism that ghost-story aficionados may recognize as the most harrowing ordeal of the entire case.

The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It will be the first main entry in the series not be directed by James Wan. Instead, taking over is Michael Chaves, who directed The Curse of La Llorona. Wan remains a producer on the movie. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also worked on the script for The Conjuring 2 and with Wan on both Aquaman and Aquaman 2, penned the trilogy-capper.

The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It will release in theaters and on HBO Max on June 4.
