To say that I love all that is Adafruit is an understatement, but is not to say that there isn’t room for improvement.

1. Does blinka install really need to install so much stuff. Watching the ooodles of things being installed, it kinda looks like blinka install is installing everything needed for any of the other Adafruit libs, but what if I’m running on a storage constrained device and only want to use Motorkit? I love Motorkit’s ease of use, but does it really require, for example, “Blinka Setting up libssl-dev:armhf (1.1.1w-0+deb11u1+rpt1) …”? SSL?

2. Simulator for Motorkit on Mac/Windows. Sure, you can’t install AOTT on Mac OS or Windows, but what if the *maybe much more targeted* install just installed a shim that would just write to console or something? IDK about this request, it’s a stretch wish.

Now that we have ESP32-S3 working quite well this year it really jacked up the amount of CPU & RAM capable with circuit python. I think that’s unlocked a lot of graphical projects from Matrix Panels and E-Inks to larger Qualia displays. I’d love to see more displayio progress for touch GUI projects. Can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store as 2023 was quite amazing progress from synthio to cameras.

#CircuitPython2024 is our annual reflection on the state of CircuitPython. We’d love to hear from you too! See the kick-off post for all of the details. Please post by January 31st.
