All the news revealed in the Warhammer Skulls 2023 Event

  1. World Premiere of Speed Freeks

After Rahul Kohli, the voice actor of the protagonist of Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun promoted the retro Doomesque FPS which released today, we got a glimpse on the alpha build of a new Warhammer 40k game called Speed Freeks. This game is a crossover between titles like World of Tanks and Flatout, pitting Orks against each other in Trukks, makeshift tanks and other very orky vehicles. The objective? Destroy every enemy vehicle on the map. Speed Freeks looks awesome, so I’m a bit sad that we didn’t get a release date – or a release window even.

  1. Total War Warhammer III Harald Hammerstorm Free Legendary Hero and 12-month roadmap

After an epic trailer, GW made Total War Warhammer III players very happy: they received a free Legendary Hero DLC for the game featuring Harald Hammerstorm. The Skulls Event also revealed the 12-month roadmap for the game:

  • Patch 4.0 called Winds of Change will introduce Tzeentch to the game, alongside Race Updates, AI Improvements and another Free Legendary Hero,
  • In 2023 Winter, the 5.0 Patch will drop, which will be a Nurgle themed expansion called Thrones of Decay, with more updates and another Free Hero,

The Horus Heresy card games hasn’t received any content for quite some time, so the Skulls Update is a welcome addition to the game.

  1. Warhammer Chaos & Conquest Mobile Game

A new mobile game was released set in the fantasy part of the Warhammer franchise called Chaos & Conquest, which is a city builder game downloadable for everyone – and it looks fun!

  1. Warhammer 40k x World of Tanks Leman Russ Crossover

The first crossover of the Skulls Event was the already announced Leman Russ Tier X Heavy Tank coming to World of Tanks, which let’s every tank commander exact the justice of the Astra Militarum to real tanks – which shouldn’t be able to penetrate a Russ’ armour, but that’s a story for another time.

  1. Warhammer 40k Gladius Firepower Pack and Free-to-Keep period

Warhammer 40,0000 Gladius is free to download and keep between May 25th and June 1st, so grab it while you can! The hit 4X strategy game also received a new expansion called the Firepower Pack, which gives an extra unit for all 10 factions in the game – including the iconic Deff Dread for Orks and the R’Varna Battlesuit for T’au!

  1. Warhammer 40k Battlesector update and Ork Expansion

  1. Vermintide 2 New Map

Fat Shark’s Warhammer Fantasy horde shooter, Vermintide 2 will receive a content update which introduces a new dwarven map called Karak Azgaraz coming June 13th. While the game isn’t considered a new one, it’s great to see that Fat Shark is still releasing updates – and great ones at that!

  1. Darktide Rejects Unite Content Update

Luckily, Fat Shark didn’t forget about their most recent horde shooter, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Darktide will receive a new content update called Rejects unite, which will introduce 2 new missions, bring Chaos Spawns into the game, as well as new shop, which let’s Rejects buy cosmetics. While sadly this update is not what the community had hoped for, Darktide is slowly (very, very slowly…) but surely getting there, and will hopefully be on par with Vermintide this year.

  1. Warhammer 40k Warpforge Demo

The upcoming Warhammer 40,000 card game, Warpforge have received a playable demo on Steam, so everyone interested in the CCG can try it! Hop into the 41st Millenium, and use the 6 factions to beat your opponent!

  1. Space Marine 2 New Gameplay Footage

After some interesting reveals and much needed updates, we came to one of the highlights of the Warhammer Skulls Event. We received some new gameplay footage for the upcoming sequel of Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine, Space Marine 2. In the shots, we can see Lieutenant Titus annihilating some Tyranids. I can’t wait for the second part of the story, but sadly, Games Workshop still didn’t give us a release date for Space Marine 2.

  1. Space Marine Board Game

What they did gave us, however is a new Warhammer 40k board came set in the story of Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine, with paintable miniatures and unique rules. The game can be played by 2 people and will last for 30 minutes according to the box, but not much is known about it other than these two facts. But with Titus getting a paintable model, he can be used in a game of 40k at least as a Lieutenant – but maybe he’ll get his own rules someday!

  1. Snowrunner Warhammer Stickers

After the grand reveals of Space Marine, the Skulls Event took a step back to showcase another collaboration with Snowrunner, which received some Warhammer Stickers.

  1. World War Z Aftermath Warhammer Trinkets

Similar to the Snowrunner crossover, the zombie-shooting horde TPS, World War Z Aftermath received some Warhammer Trinkets, so you can destroy the hordes of infected with a little Space Marine dangling from your belt.

  1. Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader new trailer

The highly anticipated turn-based strategy game has received a great new trailer showcasing the gameplay in the Hive Cities and other “indoors” maps, while also showcasing the spaceship combat of Rogue Trader. Players will have to face every enemy of humanity from xenos to cultists to the agents of Chaos itself. Sadly, Rogue Traded also didn’t get a release date, but hopefully it releases soon!

  1. Warhammer 40k Mechanicus Deluxe Double Vinyl soundtrack

One of the greatest aspects of Warhammer 40k Mechanicus, the turn based strategy game about the Tech Priests of Mars were it’s musical score – which will be available in a Double Deluxe Vinyl package! The game is also discounted right now on most platforms if you want to pair the incredible soundtrack with some necron-hunting!

  1. Warhammer 40k Tacticus Thousand Sons Faction DLC

Warhammer 40k Tacticus is the most popular (and in my opinion, most fun) mobile game of the Warhammer franchise. While not all of the factions are playable yet, the developers are slowly adding them all, and after the T’au Empire, the Thousand Sons join the fray! You can play the Legion of Tzeentch in co-op Raids, the endless Onslaught mode and the eve-changing PVP Arena! While mobile games are still not on the level of PC entries, Tacticus is a great way to kill some time.

  1. Power Wash Simulator x Warhammer 40k crossover

The last crossover of the Warhammer Skulls Event was very unexpected and very brief. Warhammer 40k is coming to Power Wash Simulator, but other than this fact, we don’t know anything – hopefully we don’t have to clean out a Servitor Manufactorum, as that would be a thing of nightmares.

  1. Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate Daemonhunters update

Another popular title, Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters received an update as well, which brings a Chaos Knight bossfight where players will have to face a fearsome War Dog armed with monstrous melee and ranged weapons. The game also got a new mission type called Bloom Assault, where the players have to escort precious cargo to safety. Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters also received some new maps, which should keep the turn based tactical game fresh!

  1. World Premier of Warhammer Age of Sigmar Realms of Ruin

And last, but most definitely not least, a brand-new Warhammer Age of Sigmar RTS has been revealed called Realms of Ruin! While only a pre-rendered trailer was shown, the team behind Realms of Ruin seemed really eager to make a great game set in the universe of Age of Sigmar. The first two factions showcased were the Stormcast Eternals and the Orruk Kruleboyz, which couldn’t be more fitting for the game. While not much has been shown or said about Realms of Ruin, we don’t have to wait long until we can see some gameplay, as the full gameplay review drops sometime in June!

While there weren’t any exact dates given about the big reveals, the Warhammer Skulls 2023 Event provided us with some well-deserved hype. Space Marine 2, Rogue Trader and Realms of Ruin will be incredible once they will be released, and it’s good to see that the developers around Warhammer are so active.
