The “Castle on the Hill’ singer has found himself a new tower in the Big Apple.

Musician Ed Sheeran has inked a deal on a top-floor penthouse in one of Brooklyn’s coolest neighbourhoods.

As Sheeran was amid a copyright-infringement trial that’s brought the Brit to the US, the 32-year old has been uncovered as the tenant of a luxury Stateside pad.

The $36,000-a-month (AU$54,400) three-storey home is located in the approximately 100-unit, new development Brooklyn Heights building Pierhouse, according to The Post.

The penthouse apartment was last purchased for just over US$6m in 2018.

When the unit listed in January for this lofty sum, it was the priciest for lease in the borough at the time — and it appears that Sheeran signed the deal in late February.

The pop star isn’t the first celebrity to call the complex home: Matt Damon and Amy Schumer have previously bought in the building.

Sheeran’s apartment has four bedrooms spread over nearly 300 sq m, as well as a private rooftop terrace with an outdoor dining area and a grill looking out across the East River to lower Manhattan.

The crib comes fully furnished, with fittings from high-end brands including Serena & Lily, Crate & Barrel and RH, according to a previous listing.

The home last sold in 2018 for $6.01 million, according to The Wall Street Journal. It’s unclear who Sheeran’s new landlord is.

“I think it ticks a lot of boxes for what you want today in a New York penthouse triplex,” founder and CEO of SOCIETE Real Estate Sarah Williams, told The Post.

“Security. Space. Five-star amenities. Dramatic 16-foot ceilings and soaring Manhattan skyline views. A private rooftop terrace even.”

Despite being able to afford such opulence, Sheeran has been having a rough time of late while in the US.

The 32-year-old had been embroiled in a federal trial in which he was accused of ripping off Marvin Gaye’s 1973 hit “Let’s Get It On” in his own track “Thinking Out Loud.”

A jury Friday has handed down its verdict which cleared the singer of plagiarising the late singer.

Sheeran said he was “very happy” he won’t have to “retire from my day job” after a US court ruled he did not plagiarise Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On when composing his 2014 hit Thinking Out Loud.

In addition to the legal turmoil, Sheeran is also still reeling from his wife Cherry’s cancer diagnosis.
