COVID-19 vaccine will get you a bitcoin in Australia

Fred Schebesta, an Australian entrepreneur, said he would willingly provide a piece of bitcoin for all citizens who will get the COVID-19 vaccine.

This move is meant to encourage more Australians to take the vaccine to protect themselves from the virus.

Schebesta said that he would provide $5 worth of Bitcoin for everyone in Australia who will get vaccinated. And based on Australia’s population (and assuming that everyone will get their vaccines), he would spend a total of A$104 million (which is equivalent to US$75 million) for his initiative.

Finder founder

Schebesta is the co-founder of the financial comparison website Finder.

“I’ve had this crazy idea right now — I’ve never spoken about this. We’re going to give everyone in Australia who gets vaccinated $5 of Bitcoin. Get vaxxed baby, and get your Bitcoin baby as well,” the 40-year-old entrepreneur said.

Schebesta said that each person could only apply once for the offer. He said that people will be able to claim their Bitcoin by downloading the Finder app and present proof of vaccination. Once this process is done, their free BTC will automatically appear in their wallets.

A big promise to fulfill

Here’s the current vax situation in Australia: Half of the population over 16-years-old has at least one coronavirus shot, and those with a full vaccination cycle are around 27%.

In other words, Schebesta would have to distribute nearly half of his $155 million fortune to fulfill his initiative. But even with this big “gamble”, there are no signs that the entrepreneur would back down on his offer.

Schebesta also said that Bitcoin might eventually hit $225,000 by 2025, and if this prediction comes true, then it would open new opportunities for Bitcoin holders.
