One of these groups looks 2x harder than the other.

Edit: Nevermind, these groups now look perfectly balanced. Sure glad Wax just messed up!

Liquipedia has different groups – which is what the original reddit thread had. Did something happen?

Is there anyway I can watch the GSL live via AfreecaTV on a smart TV or Firestick? I used to watch it on YouTube via my Firestick on my TV, but ever since the GSL made the screen smaller on YouTube, I haven’t watched it live as much

Groups for round of 8 sucks. Single Elimination provides more drama!

Totally agree. Really hates that its not ro8 but ro4 single elimination.

Also wish it was ro24 group –> ro16 (top 4 from last season). With TY, Innovation, Classic and many more players returing – and the possiblity for newer players to break through, its such a waste to have it only be ro16 group stage.

I feel like this change could do that more Koreans will continue to play and not retire.

With the prize boost I’d feel there’s room to switch back, hopefully

At present there’s still too many Code S calibre players for spots, someone’s always missing out and it feels it’s cut a little too deeply

Why bother holding qualifiers if you’re gonna make sure every good player is in code S ?
Good players getting eliminated in code A / qualis always happened and that’s part of what makes GSL hard (e.g Stats being absent from code S in 2016 while getting 2nd place in SSL)

16 feels too thin, I’m not a huge fan of group-group-Ro4 as a format either. With the prize pool cut I thought it was a reasonable change but there’s been a fair bit of boosting since.

Like it feels we lose something with that extra Ro8 gone in terms of seeing good prep Starcraft. A few good Bo3s in the group format and a player is a Ro4 player, when maybe the truncated format enables more volatility and they perhaps couldn’t run a longer gauntlet

Korean SC2 has also seen better days to put it mildly so, having those few extra spots gives at least some potential inroads to the more fringe players.

I don’t think it’s deep enough to go anywhere near back to 32 or anything like that these days
