United Arab Emirates small-arms manufacturer Edge Group's Caracal subsidiary has offered its CAR 816assault rifles to the Malaysian Army.

A spokesperson of Edge told Janes that Caracal is “in discussion” with the Malaysian Army regarding the possible sale of CAR 816s to the service.

In late May Caracal signed an agreement with Ketech Asia for the production and resale of the CAR 816 rifles in Malaysia.

“Under the agreement, the two companies will conduct a transfer of technology that enables Ketech Asia to assemble the CAR 816 tactical assault rifle at its new facilities in Pahang, in support of the Royal Malaysia Armed Forces requirements,” Edge said at that time.

According to Janes Weapons: Infantry, the CAR 816 assault rifle is chambered for the 5.56×45 mm cartridge. The CAR 816 is based on the ArmaLite AR‐15 design.
