Call of Duty: Warzone’s Verdansk map was destroyed in a nuclear blast, at least when it wasn’t crashing

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Verdansk map is no more, at least for now. As part of the game’s season 2 finale event, which will lead directly into season 3, a massive in-game nuclear missile launch has wiped out the entire map. Or that’s what happened if your game didn’t crash.

The missile launch was part of a Warzone event that even got its own special playlist called “Destruction of Verdansk, Part 1,” and it certainly lived up to its name. The event started out just like a normal match of Warzone. However, the infection zones that have been around the map for the last several days slowly started to grow before taking over almost the entire map.

Any time players died anywhere on the map, they came back as zombies, leading to a match that was almost entirely zombies by the end. Just as the map was completely overrun, a warning came over the radio to exfil from Verdansk because a nuclear launch was incoming. However, it seems the warning came a little too late and seconds later a nuclear missile exploded onto Verdansk, seemingly destroying the map. After that, the game ended and players returned to the main menu.

Unfortunately, the mode proved to be a little too popular for Call of Duty’s servers. For most players, the mode took several tries to actually reach its intended conclusion as the game was plagued with crashes that ended matches early. Thankfully, Raven has released a new update which it says should help prevent these crashing issues.

Currently, the only option in the menu is to re-enter the “Destruction of Verdansk, Part 1” mode, but that is likely to go away when the event comes to a close at 5 p.m. EDT. After the event goes away, we’re likely to get our first look at what comes next for Warzone, at least according to Raven Software’s schedule.
