BYD sold over 1.8 million electric vehicles (EVs) last year. As announced recently, BYD has a target of selling 3.6 million EVs this year. This would be an incredible achievement should the company manage to do it. Although the majority of these sales will be in its home market, a decent chunk of these sales are expected to come from BYD’s accelerated push to open up in new markets around the world.

BYD has been on a roll announcing its entry into new markets on a seemingly weekly basis now. BYD has launched some of its new BEVs in markets all across the world, including India, Thailand, Australia, Austria, New Zealand, Cambodia, Nepal, Laos, Singapore, and more. This goes to show that a lot of planning has gone into this new aggressive export drive.

One of the things helping BYD to accelerate its entry into new markets is its strategic partnership drive with local entities. In Thailand, for example, BYD has partnered with Rever Automotive. In Belgium and Luxembourg, BYD has partnered with Inchcape. In England, BYD has partnered with Pendragon.

On Friday, March 31, Spain became the latest market to get BYD BEVs. BYD is launching in Spain with 3 BEVs from its lineup. These three are the ATTO 3, the Han, and the Tang SUV.

The BYD ATTO 3 is built on the all-new BYD e-Platform 3.0 designed exclusively for pure electric vehicles. BYD says this “Gives full play to the advantages of intelligence, efficiency, safety and aesthetics, e-Platform 3.0 aims to promote NEVs’ performance in safety and low-temperature driving range as well as improve intelligent driving experiences, to build more efficient and safer new intelligent EVs.”

BYD also notes that the ATTO 3 is a spacious C-segment SUV, combining modern aesthetics with exceptional intelligence and efficiency derived from pioneering electric vehicle technology and smart connectivity. It was designed by Wolfgang Egger with the European customer in mind, providing a “stylish fun-inspired choice,” complete with very high levels of standard equipment.

The ATTO 3 is equipped with the 60.48 kWh BYD Blade Battery with a 260-mile range (WLTP combined) and DC charging (30–80% state of charge in just 29 minutes). BYD’s ATTO 3 has scored a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP Safety Tests.

BYD has partnered with several firms in Spain, including Astara, Quadis, and Caetano Retail Spain. BYD pioneer stores are set to open soon in Barcelona and Madrid. It’s really great to see BYD announce yet another new market for its BEVs. I’m looking forward to seeing how well these models do in Spain. I hope BYD will add the Dolphin as well to the Spain market — and to all the other countries in Europe.

I don’t like paywalls. You don’t like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don’t like paywalls, and so we’ve decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It’s a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So …
