Bitcoin trade & payment platform CashApp founder dies

Bob Lee was found dead following a stabbing in San Francisco. 

CashApp is a mobile payment app that provides easy payment services for UK & US customers at a cost of a 1.5% fee for immediate transfer. In 2013, CashApp was launched under the name  “Square Cash”. Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.) is the parent company behind this payment app. In 2018, CashApp added Bitcoin trade support. In Feb 2022, CashApp started to provide payment services via the use of the Bitcoin lightning network. 

On 4 April 2023, Bob Lee, the former chief technology officer of Square and creator of Cash App, was found dead in San Francisco. Reportedly an unknown attacker stabbed him.

On 5 April, Bill Barhydt, the CEO of crypto wallet company Abra, confirmed this news on behalf of local news media.

On that date, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) agency reported that a 43-year-old guy was suffering from apparent stab wounds, at approximately 2:35 am local time. 

In the past, Lee also contributed to the privacy-focused Crypto token MobileCoin as a chief product officer. In the tech industry, he grabbed huge popularity as the first technology officer of Block firm. 

Lee grabbed huge popularity in the Crypto sector, after joining the MobileCoin project. In a Dec 2021 press release on the Mobile Coin project, he said that MobileCoin aims to correct the injustice with its novel blockchain technology and will provide better banking services to the unbanked population of the world.
