Canterbury-based Barretts is to close both its Citroen and DS Automobiles showrooms on September 17 severing links between the family-owned and operated business and the French brands after two decades.

Group MD Paul Barrett declined to comment why the company hadn’t renewed its contract with Stellantis which owns both Citroen and the DS Automobiles luxury-premium marque.

He said he regretted that the decision would mean job losses at the two showrooms which employ 21 people.

Barret said he hoped to find alternative work for them within the business but that some redundancies were inevitable.

In May, Barretts posted a fall in pre-tax profits of more than a fifth in 2022, despite turnover increasing 13%.
