Berzerk: Recharged is Atari’s next remastering

Remember the 1980s? If you do, you’ll possibly remember Berzerk – a top-down multidirectional shooter. It’s that which is the next game on Atari’s Recharged hit list, with Berzerk: Recharged due to drop to modern systems later in the year.

We’re in October so when Atari say ‘later this year’, we’re expecting to see it real soon. And there’s some proper excitement behind this one as well, as they take the iconic game from the 1980s and infuse it with their Recharged goodness.

Electrifying!

Berzerk: Recharged will launch on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and Atari VCS in the weeks ahead. It’ll give players the chance to battle through hordes of armed robots as they attempt to get to grips with an endless maze. Oh yeah, and that maze? Electrified.

It’s the Evil Otto that is the standout of Berzerk; a hauntingly smiley face that bounces around your screen. He can also travel through walls. And yeah, he’s indestructible too. Oh what joy.

In Berzerk: Recharged, old Otto will come complete with updated visuals, whilst the game itself will features twin-stick controls and a new soundtrack too. Megan McDuffee will be behind that.

Key features of Berzerk: Recharged

  • Challenge Accepted: Survive an endless maze of random rooms that get progressively harder the further you get. As intensity ramps up, the increasing difficulty is reflected in the robots’ changing color schemes.
  • A-Maze-Ing Levels to Tackle: Shoot through 20 hand-crafted mazes that deliver unique gameplay challenges, each with different layouts to test your mettle
  • Pumped Power-Ups: Pick up weapon modifiers, including a spread-shot, big shot, or a series-staple railgun. There are also player modifiers for speeding up, shield, and placeable mines to use against your rude and relentless enemies!
  • Co-Op and Leaderboards: Like previous Rechaged iterations, players can recruit a trusty player two to double the firepower and aid in the onslaught if things get too dicey. Then, track your progress on the public leaderboard!

Coming Soon!

We’ll let you know when Berzerk: Recharged releases on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. It’s hitting Atari VCS too, whilst a 2600 cartridge version will also be present. That drops on November 17th alongside the release of the new Atari 2600+
