Aptos Back on Track Following Five-Hour Transaction Halt

After an unanticipated disruption that lasted for five hours, Aptos Network has successfully restored its operations. The glitch occurred at a critical time, just a day after celebrating the network's first anniversary.

The Aptos Network experienced an abrupt pause in its on-chain transactions at 11:11 PM UTC on October 18th. Data from the AptoScan network tracker indicated that the halt occurred at block 104621314.

This sudden outage prompted the network to confirm the incident on its social media channel, X (once known as Twitter), stating:

Your energy for Aptos One was so electric, you cut the lights!

The team quickly added that they were "working diligently" to fix the situation and admitted that transactions had been "impacted" due to the outage.

As a result of the network downtime, crypto exchanges Upbit and OKX issued maintenance alerts, specifying that deposits and withdrawals involving Aptos (APT) tokens would be paused temporarily.

This comes just a day after Aptos Labs proudly celebrated its first year in operation. Aptos Network was launched on October 17th, 2022, with venture capital support and was developed by former Meta employees who contributed to Facebook's Diem blockchain project.

This hiccup for Aptos is part of a broader trend of outages across various blockchains. Just a day after Aptos' issues, the Theta Network also experienced a brief disruption. According to the Theta team, a recent node upgrade led to an "edge case bug," resulting in a halt in the production of blocks on the main chain. A fix was quickly implemented, restoring normal operations.

After an unsettling five-hour disruption, the Aptos Network has successfully resumed its normal functioning, with transactions being restored. While the team worked swiftly to rectify the issue, the outage has raised questions about the overall reliability of emerging blockchains. Aptos is not the only network to face such issues recently, suggesting that the crypto community may need to brace for more unpredictable "outage seasons" ahead.
