The original Alan Wake has become a cult classic that is still a fantastic experience to play through if you haven’t already given it a go. Remedy Games have since gone on to make Quantum Break & Control as well as committing to remaking the first two Max Payne games.

Creative Director Sam Lake revealed quite a bit about Alan Wake 2 during its official debut but we’re still missing some key info. Here’s everything we know about Alan Wake 2 including its possible release date and what genre the game will take on!

Alan Wake 2 release date

There is no confirmed release date for Alan Wake 2 just yet. Following the official reveal, Sam Lake was very honest in saying that the game was not going to be ready anytime soon although the official website currently states that Alan Wake will return in 2023.

Our best guess is that the game will reappear during E3 2023 and we get a confirmed release date during the event. Late 2023 seems like a realistic time frame but it’s entirely unlikely that the game won’t be out until 2024.

Platforms

We are far enough into the current-gen of consoles for Alan Wake 2 to comfortably leave the PS4 and Xbox One behind.

Officially, the game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S & PC via the Epic Game Store. It may arrive on Steam at a later date.

What genre is Alan Wake 2?

Again thanks to Sam Lake, we know that Alan Wake 2 will be Remedy Games’ first attempt at a survival horror game, however, we’re not entirely sure which version of survival horror it will follow.

It could be a build, craft and survive type game with an open world or alternatively, be more linear and instead enforce the survival aspect with limited resources throughout the game.

My personal preference is the latter of the two options and this also seems far more likely given the type of game that Remedy is known for.
