Adonai Mitchell Background

School: Texas

Size: 6-foot-4, 196 pounds

Class: Junior

2023 stats: 55 receptions, 845 receiving yards, 15.4 yards per catch, 11 touchdown catches, 2 rushes, 1 rushing yard

Mitchell starred at two schools and played in plenty of big games during his college career. He is now in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a three-star recruit out of Tennessee, Mitchell signed with Georgia out of high school. He immediately made an impact for Georgia, registering 29 catches for 426 yards and four touchdowns. His play helped Georgia win the National Championship. Mitchell returned to the Bulldogs in 2022. He only played in six games, but tallied nine receptions for 134 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs repeated as champions. Mitchell transferred to Texas for the 2023 season. He had a good season with 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. His play helped the Longhorns make their first College Football Playoff.

Following the CFP appearance, Mitchell declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.

Adonai Mitchell Strengths

Mitchell is a big-bodied wide receiver, who still has room to fill out his frame. He is 6-foot-4 and 196 pounds, which makes him tough to be matched by defensive backs. His size gives him a huge catch radius, making him a quarterback-friendly target.

He is a good athlete, especially given his size. Mitchell has nice acceleration at the start of a play and can really put the speed on when he gets his legs extended. It won’t be elite speed, but it is good. He has good leaping ability and body control to adjust in the air to passes that are off of his frame. This also helps him in the red zone and when he is near the sideline.

With his size and athleticism, Mitchell is a deep threat. It can be hard for defensive backs to match him stride for stride. He can win 50-50 balls down the field to create big plays. Mitchell has shown that he can throw double-moves where he just takes one step at defenders to free himself going deep. Most of the time he is able to track the ball solidly downfield.

Adonai Mitchell Weaknesses

Mitchell needs to show he can beat press coverage better. He tends to struggle with physical coverage. Adding strength to his frame can help, as he should be able to fight off defenders better. He can also add more detailed work to his releases at the line of scrimmage to free himself. Focusing on catching contested passes and coming back to the football can help him. He has good size, but he needs to use it more to free himself and shield defenders from the football.

His route-running is good in spurts, but he does have trouble getting in and out of his breaks. He can be too upright, which causes him trouble changing directions. Some of his routes are rounded off. He has shown that he can separate vertically, on slants and with double moves, but he needs to continue to work on his craft to lower his center of gravity to make it easier to stop and go.

He doesn’t offer as much after the catch as other receivers in this class. His speed and athleticism are solid, so he has the skills to do more. He has shown flashes of good vision in the open field, but doesn’t have the elusiveness to dodge tackles. Mitchell also doesn’t have the strength to break tackles.
