ACME Qi Charger – desk grommet #3DThursday #3DPrinting

ACME shares:

The enclosure has air holes to pull cool air from below the desk through the top. Printed in a clear filament, the onboard pcb led lights up the grommet enough to see the status. If you’re not interested in the status of the pcb, print the enclosure with an opaque filament.

The bottom and top piece have a sharp-angle chamfer that make for an easy but secure press fit but you can pull them apart to replace with different electronic components if the circuitry goes bad. The pcb doesn’t have an internal mount, it just floats in the enclosure. Make sure you put a non-conductive covering over the screw. I used a piece of double-stick mounting tape but left the protective coating on one side. Make sure to run the cabling through the bottom piece’s cable strain relief to protect the pcb.

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!
