April has been nothing but reasonable in terms of the Game Pass additions, but today it ramps things up a little, delivering 2 new Xbox games to the service on Day One.

It’s a case of hand-crafted adventure or full-on beat ’em up in terms of the new additions to the Game Pass service today as we see the release of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Special Edition and The Last Case of Benedict Fox rock up for action.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Special Edition is available as we type these words, priced at a cool £44.49 if you don’t want to make the most of your Game Pass sub. If you do – and if you have one, you should – then you’ll find a BlazBlue battler that combines a host of other entities into one.

There’s some RWBY fighting, some Persona pop-ups and more present in this one, as ARC SYSTEM WORKS deliver a new battler to the scene.

For us, it’s the arrival of The Last Case of Benedict Fox that is the more interesting and intriguing prospect – if only as it looks sooooo damn good, visually and mechanically.

Whisking us off to a twisted world full of secrets, Benedict Fox focuses on forbidden rituals and cold-blooded murders, as you take on the role of the titular detective; one shackled to a demon. What plays out from there is nothing short of a masterpiece in hand-crafted Metroidvania action, as you go about fighting demons, explore the subconscious and attempt to solve a host of puzzles.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox has been inspired by many things, but most notably Lovecraftian nightmares, noir fiction and – strangely – early 20th century jazz come to the fore. As you would expect to hear, that combination should allow for some serious storytelling.

You’ll find The Last Case of Benedict Fox on the Xbox Store. If you want to know more about it, check out our exclusive interview with the Plot Twist team behind it.

So, 2 new games hitting Game Pass on Xbox and PC on Day One. What’s not to like? Well, we’re not sure actually and whilst we’re personally much more aligned with the detective work of Ben Fox, BlazBlue will get a look in too. Keep an eye out for reviews of both soon.

With the end of April fast approaching, that’s pretty much your lot in terms of new Game Pass titles, at least until May when the likes of Redfall arrive. There are some leaving though, with April 30th throwing out Bugsnax (Cloud, Console, and PC), Destroy All Humans! (Cloud, Console, and PC), Dragon Quest Builders 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC), Tetris Effect Connected (Console and PC) and Unsouled (Cloud, Console, and PC).

Get down into the comments and let us know which of the 2 new games you will be playing through Game Pass today.
