Unofficial World Championship

Írta: Koznarov

The first part of our trip down memory lane left us in April 2020, at the first 2020 GHL Season. The Chinese-Korean team Tsunami had become the Heroes of the Storm Unofficial World Champion. In fact, in one of our timelines they still are. However, the new branch of the time stream takes us back to Korea… and beyond. In case you missed it, you still can read rész 1.

HOTS League Revival S5

Crow and Gondar played for BCK

The Koreans from Tsunami took the championship bell back home. After a perfect run at the group stage, they lost at the finals against Lockdown’s team.

  • Grand Finals: 3인황꿈 4-2 BCK

The great production team behind Revival Season 5.

GHL 2020 S2

3인황꿈 disbanded. Rujeah and SaMaT played for GTP

This was a new chapter in the newborn GHL rivalry between Tsunami and HOTS. After facing each other at the qualifier in Season 1, both teams made it to the finals in Season 2.The result was the same: a Tsunami victory.

  • Semifinals: Tsunami 3-1 GTP

GHL 2020 S3

Tsunami kept the exact same roster

This was just another day at the office for Tsunami. Their tournament run was perfect, not dropping a single map throughout the whole event.

Storm Division S1 Q1

Crow and Gondar played for Team Alexander

The championship belt left the Eastern regions for the first time in the post-HGC era. The Korean superteam Team Alexander attended the Storm Division qualifiers, where they swept all the teams but one, VGM Gaming.

  • Finals: VGM 2-0 Alexander

Here we find another timeline split. If we consider VGM a proper organization, they kept their title until the main event of the NGS Storm Division. At that tournament, Chilly Mountain’s NGS squad took the crown. That roster later became Heavy Impact… Long story short, Simplicity became the World Champion before the CCL Season 2 Icebreaker (thus merging back timelines 2 and 3). If we don’t consider VGM a proper organization, we get to Timeline 3.

Kapptains Draft

All the VGM players attended the event. Two of them (Hebi and Vespertine) played for Team Liam

Another draft tournament. After losing against Cookieman’s team at the group A finals, Carbon led his squad to victory and claimed the championship belt for himself.

  • Group A: Cookieman 2-1 Liam
  • Finals: Carbon 3-1 Cookieman

Storm Division S1 Q4

Team Carbon disbanded. Players: Valamar (Forge), GotFilth (CPogX Fanclub)

In the fourth Storm Division qualifier, CPogX Fanclub earned a spot for the main event, but also became the world champion.

CCL Season 1 Icebreaker

Velocity hadn’t signed CPogX Fanclub yet, so we can’t count it as an org. Players: GotFilth (Sidestep Kings), nintorii (Granit Gaming), Noah (Simplicity)

This was the beginning of the CCL World Champions. After drafting three of the CPogX Fanclub players, the championship belt became the unofficial prize of the Icebreaker Tournament.

CCL Season 1

World Champion: CrowdControl*

We finally arrive at the largest Heroes of the Storm event since HGC. We’ll consider all the involved teams to be proper organizations, even if some of them disbanded after season 1.

  • Week 2: WH 3-2 CC
  • Week 3: OXG 3-1 WH
  • Week 5: Granit 3-2 OXG
  • Week 6: Chilly 3-1 Granit
  • Week 7: CC 3-0 Chilly
  • Upper Semifinals: Simplicity 3-1 CC

[kép betöltése] Egyszerűség: Kure, Lutano, KillZiioN, Hosty, LegacY, Mascarade

*Though some CC players participated in Nexus Cup 4 and Meta Madness 4, CrowdControl was considered a proper organization at that time, so the title still belonged to them.

CCL Season 2 Icebreaker

World Champion: Simplicity

Michael Udall was really proud of his CCL Season 2 draft. We don’t know if 30k will win the CCL, but actually they were the Unofficial World Champions… for a while.

  • Quarterfinals: Simplicity 1-2 CM
  • Semifinals: CM 0-2 30k

[kép betöltése] 30k: HasuObs, Vespertine, Fury, XraYY, Dynouh, Yasu

DreamHack Beyond Q1

World Champion: 30k

After their initial success, 30k wasn’t able to keep the championship belt. Simplicity claimed it back.

  • Semifinals: 30k 1-2 Simplicity

[kép betöltése] Egyszerűség: Kure, Lutano, LegacY, Mascarade, Hosty

DreamHack Beyond Q2

World Champion: Simplicity

Despite successfully defending their title at CCL Season 2, Simplicity fell at the second DreamHack qualifier. They were already qualified for the main event, but they decided to play the tournament anyway.

  • Semifinals: Simplicity 1-2 WH

[kép betöltése] WildHeart Esports: Justing, Zergling, Buds, Unaverted, WearyDay

CCL Season 2

World Champion: WildHeart Esports

Unlike Simplicity, WildHeart failed to defend the championship belt at the HeroesHearth league. They lost it in their first match after DreamHack Q2.

  • Week 5: OXG 3-2 WH
That takes us to our current Unofficial World Champion: Oxygen Esports. So far, they have defended their title throughout the whole DreamHack Beyond Q3 and CCL Weeks 6 and 7. How long will Nazmas, MadaraUchiha, RedRobot, Cascon, Drated, Hebi and their coach, CavalierGuest, keep their crown?
