When is the Madden 22 release date? That’s a question that fans all over the globe have on the tips of their tongues.  So where is the new game? The simple fact is that we don’t know. We do have some idea of when it could land though. So let’s talk about that. There’s no official cover athlete for Madden 22 yet either, so fans are stuck kind of waiting to see how things turn out. To all of these questions and more, there are things to consider.

When is the Madden 22 release date?

So far, EA has not released the actual official date, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating about the Madden 22 release date. Being that this is basically a yearly franchise, there’s a good bet that Electronic Arts wants the game to come out around the peak interest in the sport. In previous years, there has been a trend to release entries in the franchise in early-mid August.

That timing is crucial for interest in Football in America. The pre-season games are usually about to begin, and NFL teams across the nation are pouring time and money into marketing and developing their roster for that year. It would make perfect sense for the new game to align with this timing. What better time to try and capture fan interest than right when everyone starts thinking about football?

Madden 21 broke with the tradition a bit, and the next game might too. The game launched on August 28th to better coincide with the launch of the new crop of consoles. Now that we are firmly entrenched in the new console cycle, it’s likely EA will want to try and fall back on old habits. All of the recent Madden games have launched around that date as well, opting for the end of the month in most cases. This lends credence to the idea that EA wants more of the same for this new title.

There are some thorns in the side of both fans and Electronic Arts this year though, as COVID-19 has caused a ton of issues. With sporting events all over the globe being restricted or canceled, there have been a lot of angry fans hoping for a return to normalcy. There has also been a lot of delays in the games industry, as publishers and developers alike delay projects to give themselves more time to work.

So given all of this, it would seem likely that EA wants Madden 22 to land in August 2021, but that can certainly change. We will be sure to let you know about the Madden 22 release date when we have it.

Now, let’s talk about the cover athlete.

Who is the cover athlete?

Rumors allege that the current star running back of the Tennessee Titans, Derrick Henry, will lead the franchise this year. The rumor comes from an alleged leak from pre-order materials obtained ostensibly by a GameStop employee. EA has also not confirmed this yet, so it’s still up in the air. The 27-year-old has been active in the NFL for two years, and accrued nearly 6,000 total yards and more than 50 touchdowns. It certainly looks like the makings of a stellar career, and Madden loves to spotlight hot stars from their respective sports. And he’s also got some records that point to a solid bit of talent. Henry set the national high school football record for career rushing yards with the Yulee Hornets.
