After agreeing to a four-year deal with quarterback Daniel Jones, the New York Giants have placed the franchise tag on Saquon Barkley. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news.

The Giants will pay Barkley around $10.1 million by placing him on the tag. Barkley will likely want to keep negotiating a long-term deal, as he reportedly wanted to avoid the franchise tag.

Barkley, 26, was the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has rushed for 4,249 yards and 29 touchdowns in his career. Barkley also has 1,820 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his time with the Giants.

In the 2022 season, Barkley played 16 games for the first time since his rookie year. He rushed for 1,312 yards, had 338 receiving yards and scored 10 touchdowns. His play helped lead the Giants to the playoffs.
