design with high-tech touches borrowed from the Lyriq EV and the latest generation of the Escalade full-size SUV. This is the first refresh of Cadillac’s small SUV, first launched for the 2019 model year.

Cadillac took the covers off the 2024 XT4 SUV. the new model gets some substantial updates inside and out.

The XT4 is built on GM’s scalable E2XX platform, shared with the compact Buick Envision SUV, and carries an advanced 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

The engine uses GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology to improve fuel economy, and it is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and buyer’s choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. None of that will change for the 2024 model, but the new XT4 will get significant interior and exterior updates.

“The 2024 XT4’s exterior styling — with signature vertical lighting cues and enhancements — advances Cadillac’s design standard,” said Bryan Nesbitt, executive director, Global Cadillac. “Complemented with a redesign of the interior instrument panel, fashionable embroidery patterns on the seating and a feeling of front row spaciousness — the new XT4 is distinctive and audacious.”

Audacious is bodacious

The new model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder putting out 235 horsepower and is mated to a 9-speed automatic.

The new exterior treatment of the XT4 focuses on the front and rear views of the vehicle. There’s an all-new front fascia with Cadillac’s traditional vertical lighting signature in the daytime running lights. The headlights are also vertical, mounted lower on the front face. All the lights have been redesigned around a new grille shaped to invoke the classic Cadillac chevron with a modern-looking gloss black parametric crosshatch pattern.

Buyers who select the top Premium Luxury trim will get a different, exclusive grille, along with different wheels, roof rails and side body accents. Sport trim also has its own exclusive front end, wheels, body-side dark accents and dark finish roof rails. Every one of the three trims, including Luxury, Sport and Premium Luxury, will get a new wheel design, either 18 or 20 inches in diameter.

In the cabin, Cadillac has given the 2024 XT4 a more tech-forward attitude centered around a 33-inch-diagonal LED touchscreen display inspired by the Cadillac Lyriq EV. Befitting the modern design trend, the 33-inch display stretches seamlessly across the dash from the driver’s information center to the console area. The Virtual Cockpit System, as Cadillac calls it, is the foundation for the vehicle’s infotainment system and connectivity features.

Additional luxury features include authentic brushed aluminum trim across the full width of the instrument panel, and contemporary embroidery patterns on the seats. Additional interior touches are based on the overall trim level. The base Luxury trim includes piano black, while Premium Luxury offers wood or aluminum, and Sport trim gets carbon fiber or wood.

Big tech, literally

The 33-inch touchscreen is the dominant piece of tech in the new XT4. The screen is set at 9K resolution and curves toward the driver in a single continuous arc, spanning the driver’s viewing area. A customizable user interface gives you the ability to personalize your driving experience, and selectable display themes are changeable for different drivers.

The 2024 XT4 will offer 5G-based data receiver with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and the native system is powered by Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play. Of course,

Wireless Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto are included, along with Amazon Alexa.

State-of-the-art safety and driver assistance

As a premium small SUV, the XT4 is endowed with everything GM knows how to put in a new vehicle. Standard safety and assistance features include blind zone steering assist, automatic rear cross-traffic braking, forward pedestrian and bicyclist braking, following distance indicator, automatic high beams, lane assistance, and a second-row seatbelt indicator.

An optional Active Safety Package will include adaptive cruise control, intersection automatic braking, reverse automatic braking, 360-degree HD camera system, speed-limit assistance, traffic sign recognition and more.

The XT4 will come with three standard drive modes including a normal Tour mode, Sport mode, and a Snow/Ice mode. On the Sport trim, special suspension tuning is included. Torque-vectoring all-wheel drive is optional on all trims.

The 2024 Cadillac XT4 will go on sale this summer. The new SUV will be built for the American market at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas. Pricing will be announced close to the on-sale date.
