The HDF received the first of 209 Lynx armoured vehicles on 15 October 2022. (HDF)

Hungary will produce the ammunition for the KF41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) it is procuring domestically, Janes learnt at the International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) conference held in London on 23–26 January. This is in addition to the 163 Lynx IFVs being produced in Hungary.

The Lynx has a Rheinmetall Lance 2.0 turret armed with a MK 30-2/ABM (airburst munition) cannon that fires next-generation programmable kinetic energy time-fused (KETF) ammunition.

Low-rate initial production of the Lynx began in Hungary at the beginning of 2023. This includes building the Lynx’s Lance turret and additional variants of the vehicle. Pre-series production will be followed by full-rate production in mid-July.

The Hungarian Ministry of Defence (MoD) ordered 209 Lynx armoured vehicles, nine Büffel 3 armoured recovery vehicles, nine armoured vehicle launched bridges (AVLBs), and 16 trucks, plus ammunition, simulators, training, an initial supply of spare parts, and maintenance support worth more than EUR2 billion (USD2.17 billion) in September 2020.
